Moving Over Can Save a Life

If you see an emergency vehicle on the shoulder of a highway or other major road, move over if at all possible. This can prevent a collision between your vehicle and an emergency responder. You may also be violating the law if you don't attempt to move into another lane.

As a general rule, you want to keep your focus on the road at all times. Do not attempt to find out why an accident happened or what the police are doing at the scene. Rubbernecking can result in additional accidents or otherwise put yourself and others in danger.

Move over laws apply to almost any vehicle that has flashing lights on it. Therefore, be prepared to move over if you see a police vehicle, firetruck or ambulance on the road. It may also be a good idea to move over for tow trucks.
