It's back-to-school time and many new drivers will be driving themselves to school or heading off to college. If you haven't already, now is a great time to go over some safe driving techniques with your teen. These tips include:
- Always wear your seatbelt. It's the law! In addition, wearing a seatbelt could save your life.
- Stay off of your phone. Don't talk on the phone or text and drive. Distracted driving increases the risk of an accident.
- Don't speed. Teens tend to drive fast, which is dangerous and can cause an accident.
- Never drink and drive. The crash risk for teens who drink and drive is higher than that of adults. They lack experience and alcohol affects them differently.
- There is a higher instance of teen crashes at night, so it's best to limit nighttime driving.
- Don't let your teen ride with too many passengers. The more passengers the higher the risk of being involved in a fatal crash.
