October is Fall Car Care Month which makes it the perfect time to give your car a little tender loving care before cold weather sets in. Just doing a few simple things can save you money and a headache down the road. Here are a few steps you can take to make sure your car is ready for cooler temperatures.

  • Inspect the battery. You can do it yourself or have it done be a trusted mechanic. Make sure the battery is clean and tight with no corrosion. Cold weather is harsh on batteries so it's wise to make sure it's in the best condition now.
  • Make sure that the heater, defroster, and windshield wipers are working properly. These things are important for driver comfort and safety. Make sure wiper blades aren't worn or cracked and that there's plenty of wiper fluid.
  • Check the tire pressure and tread depth. If you notice uneven wear on your tires you will need to get a wheel alignment.
  • Get the brake system inspected including the brake linings, rotors and drums. Because brakes are an important safety feature you have to make sure they're working properly especially in the event of snow or ice.
